What do you do when a wave of rain and wind hits mid ceremony? You laugh and take it all in. That’s exactly what Kevin and Nikki did this past weekend at their Cherry Creek Lodge Wedding. There was nothing that could dampen their joy. In fact, I don’t think I saw Nikki’s face without a smile the entire time I was there.
Nikki and Kevin make you feel like family from the first moment you meet them. As a last minute booking, I hadn’t had the chance to meet Kevin or Nikki in person, but it felt like we’d known each other for years almost instantly.
Their wedding was laid back yet completely joyous and full of celebration. I loved the touch of rose gold mixed in with all the southwest details.
The groom’s details were incredible! I loved his boots (see the prickly pear?!) and the band on his Grandfather’s hat was just too cool!
Nikki could not quit grinning. She was so ready for this and so excited!
Just before the ceremony started, it began to sprinkle. It let up quickly though and everyone found their seats.
As the walk up to the aisle was long, Nikki didn’t want Kevin to see her until she was close. Kevin stood with his back turned as Nikki made her way up the aisle, and finally turned to see his glowing bride.
As a part of their ceremony, they had a Warming of the Rings. The rings, in a special bag, were passed from person to person where each of their loved ones were able to hold the rings in their hand, warm them with their touch as well as to pour their heartfelt wishes or prayers over the rings. It was sweet to watch the rings pass around and the smiles hit faces as it became each person’s turn to add their love to the rings.
Everything seemed fine until suddenly we could all see a wave of rain sweeping at us from across the pond. It hit fast and hard. I nearly ran for umbrellas until I heard Nikki’s laughter. They just kept on with the ceremony in the rain and it was amazing!
Thankfully the hard rain did not last long and the glow of the sun through the clouds came back!
Cherry Creek Lodge was the perfect place for the wedding. This working ranch is tucked away in Young, AZ and has a rich southwest history. Everyone there was friendly, hard working, and amazing. They helped make magic happen as the weather changed and we shifted from each part of the day. And oh my goodness, the food was incredible!
This was the first wedding I’ve shot where both fathers were in the bridal party, and it was so meaningful and touching! I loved it!
Nikki could not quit giggling through pictures, she was so incredibly happy!
The glow we go at sunset was beautiful! I couldn’t believe how much light was bouncing around with the clouds!
The Lodge staff asked if it would be okay with me to light a fire for the first dance. Yes, please!! It added such a fun touch in person and added warmth to the photos.
I’m not going to lie…I LOVED all the country music and dancing at the wedding. They had guests with quite the moves, it was so fun to watch!!
Nikki set Angela up for the perfect easy shot at catching the bouquet…and then it bounced!! Luckily it was just “a practice throw” and she caught it the second time!
Kevin and Nikki, your wedding was full of magic! You made me feel like family right away and it was amazing to see how loved you are by your friends and family. You are an incredible match and incredible family. It was my honor to get to be there for you all!

The photos and your narrative brought tears to my eyes. I am Nikki’s Nana. Because of health issues we couldn’t be there. You absolutely brought the wedding and all of the joy and love to life for those of us that couldn’t be present. We love you Nikki and Kevin and your beautiful family. May God bless your marriage that you will have that love and friendship the rest of your lives. Love Nana and Papa John
Incredible pictures Marquette, you nailed it. The day was as you called it magical, and you made the memories for all to look back on.
Thank you for being part of it. The narration was a nice added touch to the pictures.
