Information about the “Mini Rim”

• Nearest Town: Payson, AZ
  • This location is a great option if you want the look of the Mogollon Rim but don’t want the drive or the crowds. This location is a 5-10 minute drive from the Walmart in Payson. We call this the Mini Rim as it gives the same general feel of the Rim without the extra 45 minutes in the car or trying to work around the tourist crowds.
  • To get to the Rim edge we will have to park on Houston Mesa Rd and walk up the OHV road/trail. The walk takes 5-8 minutes and heels are not advised.
  • Even though this spot is so close to town, the forest camouflages much of the town and it isn’t readily visible from the overlook.
• Best time of day: This location can work at any time of day, but if you want soft light then sunrise or within 2 hours before sunset works best.
• This location is fabulous year round. Can you imagine those views with snow?!
• This location can experience some breezy weather, but that makes for some great hair and flowing skirt action!
