Austin and Tatum’s Cabins on Strawberry Hill Wedding was the perfect mixture of fall and summer, class and boho, party and sentimentality, family and friends. It was very evident that these two are loved dearly by many, but that wasn’t a surprise to me at all. This was the first day I’d met them, but they already had a very special spot in my heart already.
If you’ve been around on Instagram, you may know the story. This post wouldn’t be complete without it though. The week of Austin and Tatum’s engagement session was the week I went to be with my mom in the ICU in New Mexico. The plan was for me to be there a few days with her and then go back home to do their engagement photos.
When the news came that things were much worse than we’d expected and a family meeting was being called, I immediately got in touch with Austin and Tatum. There were so gracious and understanding about cancelling their session that weekend. There was no hesitation, no “but you owe us!”, no hassle from them.
In the end the exact time that we’d originally set up to meet for their engagement session ended up being the exact time we got the call to head to the hospital for a final visit with Mom before she passed. I wouldn’t have been able to make it had I not already been in NM.
There are stories I have heard from other photographers and wedding vendors about couples who will not budge, who make things hard when family emergencies happen, and who would not have been as gracious. I will forever be grateful for the kindness and love they showed someone they had never even met.
As I went through the wedding day with them I could tell that wasn’t just a one time act of kindness. They genuinely greeted everyone who came with love and excitement and the whole atmosphere was full of celebration and love. These are good people and I am so honored to have been able to capture their day for them.
With 18 people in the wedding party, I expected things to be rushed for the getting ready photos and someone to be running late. But they were all ready on time, things ran SO smooth, and they had a blast together. The guys even had time for rugby and frisbee out on the lawn before they got dressed. I was super impressed!
Tatum and Austin chose to have a First Look in the National Forest behind the Cabins on Strawberry Hill Property. They read their vows there in the forest, just the two of them. The sun ducked in and out of the clouds, and it was beautiful to watch the moment unfold.
One of the fun parts about doing a First Look is that you can then do wedding party photos right away while the hype is strong and before all the guests arrive! This crew didn’t need much hyping up, they were ready to go, ready to party, and ready to celebrate Austin and Tatum. They were such a fun group all day and were ready to pitch in and help however was needed!
The Cabins on Strawberry Hill has been a favorite of mine for a few years now! The weather can’t be beat, the location is perfect, and their grounds are beautiful. The new ramada is stunning as well!! It doesn’t hurt too that it’s just up the road from me! Stasha and Nicole with Jars & Lace did an absolutely incredible job with the decor, charcuterie table setup, and setup. Everything looked stunning!
Tiny drops of sprinkles fell here and there during the ceremony, but it all held off until the final kiss and everyone was on their way up to the Ramada. Thankfully it never poured on us, but it was enough rain and thick clouds that we decided to go straight up to Cocktail Hour instead of sunset portraits (as there was no sunset light and we already were able to get portraits after the First Look…there’s one amazing bonus to having a First Look…it’s great insurance in case of weather later).
Are you guys ready for the coolest cake table?! We were all freaking out over this!!
Those mini cakes were so cute and SO YUMMY! They made for such a beautiful display and were a fun spin on the traditional cake or cupcakes. Each mini cake was cut into fourths for serving, and boy they got gobbled up!
Austin and Tatum, your wedding was so dreamy and full of celebration on every level! It was so sweet to see you interact with your friends and family and to feel the love in the air between you all. I am so honored that I got to be there with you at the wedding, to get to be the one to capture your memories, and be your sidekick. Thank you for your graciousness and kindness to me and to the world. Your actions and your heart make a difference and ripple out! Love you both!
