Joey and Kaylas wedding at the Cabins on Strawberry Hill was the first chilly day of the season, but it was absolutely beautiful and the love between these two incredible people filled the day. It was also my first time getting to work with the new ceremony area at the Cabins, and it’s is a stunning setup!
Kayla told me she was going for a forest queen vibe and holy smokes she nailed it! The Diana Tiara was the perfect touch.
(We may or may not have temporarily borrowed one of the empty donut stands for the shoe shot…because these shoes definitely needed to be highlighted!)
It is always a neat part of the day to see the Bride and Groom being loved on by their people as they prep for the ceremony. Nerves start to build and seeing these loved friends and family lend their help, love, support, and calming vibes is touching every single time.
I love how the Cabins constantly are working to improve and expand their dreams and their offerings. Ceremonies have typically been in the gravel drive between the cabins or on the lawn. Both were beautiful and great spots. But now there is a gorgeous designated ceremony terrace with incredible views of the mountains, and the whole site is incredible! It upgrades the whole venue in such a special way.
This is where Kayla and Joey got to meet up for their First Look before any of the guests were let into the site. It was the perfect secluded spot for them and adds another layer of meaning to it all.
Okay, are you ready for one of the sweetest Bride and Groom First Looks? Kayla and Joey have worked so hard and been through so much together to get to this point where they could celebrate, it was touching to get to witness and capture this moment for them.
I love this next shot from my Second Shooter, Kate. They surprised their guests with the news that they had actually eloped on May 4th of this year (May the Fourth be With You) and Kayla’s face here was so cute!
Such a sweet wedding party! They took care of Kayla and Joey all day. I loved seeing them all work together for the good of the day and the good of their friends.
Forest portraits was high on Joey and Kayla’s list for priorities for the day. They were so game for anything and I loved seeing them just being themselves together.
They had a quick and fun first dance together that they’d choreographed. It was adorable and so well done!
I have to add a side story here. I watched the weather forecast all week leading up to the wedding. The forecast showed a higher and higher chance of rain and cold weather. When I packed for the wedding I grabbed multiple levels of jackets and coats. While gathering warm supplies I saw a green beanie that my mom had made for her to wear when outside.
Before Mom got the trach she lost a lot of weight and had trouble staying warm anywhere. That was when she made that hat. By chance I ended up with it (she passed away 3 years ago) and it’s been in our cold weather clothes rotation since. I didn’t think it’d be cold enough for the beanie at the wedding, but for some reason felt like I should grab it and bring it. Just in case.
Being the first chilly weekend in Strawberry this season, Joey was feeling the cold quite acutely. Any extra minute we’d wrap him in blankets, with them going over his head too. And then I remembered my mom’s beanie. I ran and got it out of my supply box and brought it over. Joey’s eyes lit up and it kept him warm the rest of the night. It’s hard to party with blankets piled on your head!
I almost didn’t bring the hat, but I’m positive now it was a push from the other side to grab it. It was sweet to see my Mom’s love still pouring out and blessing this couple. It was an honor to get to pass on the hat filled with all the mom love and goodness.
Joey and Kayla, it was an absolute honor to get to be there at your wedding celebration. Your love for each other was so apparent in every interaction and look between you two. I’m inspired by your story and your perseverance. I can’t wait to see what you two do and accomplish together in your future life. Love you both!!
