Allison and Brittany were so nervous when they pulled up for their Willow Springs Engagement Session. They’d never had professional photos done together. It was not long before they were chatting up a storm, snuggling each other in, and taking in the gorgeous lake views. I had an blast visiting with them both, learning their story, and enjoying the views.

They met on a dating app…but kinda by accident. They didn’t live in each other’s radius for matches, but both happened to be in the Minneapolis airport at the same time and hopped on the app to kill time. And now these two brought their midwest charm to the southwest and I loved getting to work with them for their engagement photos. They promised to send photos of their island wedding in the spring, and I can’t wait to see!

Not gonna lie, I was so glad to see the clouds building up on the Rim. Lake photos always look amazing with textured clouds!!

While walking through the woods we happened on this discarded yellow mushroom that someone else had picked, and I couldn’t get it out of my head. I went back and picked it up and set it aside for ring shots. Their engagement rings looked so cool together with the local mushroom and wildflowers. The bracelet is a family treasure from Brittany’s side as a gift for Allison, and I love that they brought it along. We used it in the ring photos and then tucked it safely in the car as the clasp kept coming undone and none of us wanted to lose it in the lake.

Outfit two was reserved for the sunset glow, and we really did have such a beautiful glow that evening!

I call this next one the Grandma Shot. It’s the photo that Grandma wants to hang on her fridge or have on her phone to show her friends. She wants to be able to say, “Look at my beautiful grandkid! Aren’t they grown up. They’re getting married now! That’s their fiance!” and show off the beautiful couple. I’ve started telling couples that whatever photos they choose for their Save the Dates, Wedding Invitations, or Announcements, one of these needs to go in the envelope for Grandma too. So we made sure to get a Grandma Shot featuring each of their rings in turn.

I don’t have my hip waders anymore, but did that stop me from getting in the lake for a reflection shot? Nope! I’d planned my pants and shoes specifically so I could wade in. Granted, I couldn’t go as deep as I used to with the hip waders, but it still got me more of the angle I wanted. I love these shots with a bit more water in them and Allison and Brittany’s reflections.

Finally it was sunset time. Allison ran back up to the car to switch dresses and I got my settings dialed in to start workign the sunset in.

I loved that they both wore necklaces with each other’s initial on it. It was such a cute touch!

Allison and Brittany, thank you so much for meeting me there at the lake and for a fabulous evening. I loved every minute with you both. You were so easy to visit with, naturals in front of the camera (even though I know you were nervous, you really rocked these!), and brought so much joy with you. Enjoy the rest of your wedding planning and don’t forget to send me photos of the wedding!
