Caleb and Jenna picked Riggs Lake for their engagement session, and it really couldn’t have been a more beautiful choice this time of year. They’d camped out here earlier in the summer to spend time fishing, hanging out, and even spotting a few bears along the way. Caleb’s little boy was there for the trip too, and apparently walked away fully convinced his dad could take on a bear if it came down to it. I love that kind of dad-oration!

To kick things off, Jenna and Caleb brought the cutest little picnic on a blanket in the woods: a cake decorated with their wedding date, champagne glasses, and sparkling cider to toast with. Can every session start with cake and cider?! I’d be totally down!

Doing an engagement session at Riggs Lake gives a lot of opportunity for variety, while still staying very in the “Alpine Lake” theme. We chased light in the forest, twirled on the dock, found the foot bridge, and waited for that sunset glow to spread across teh lake. It was an absolutely beautiful day spent with these two.

Aren’t her eyes incredible?!

Here’s a fun bit of history: Caleb and Jenna were in the wedding party for Josh and Kaycee, one of my past couples! Caleb and Josh are brothers, and Kaycee and Jenna are long time friends. They had met before the wedding, but that was right when things were starting to quietly bloom between them. It’s fun to think about that wedding as a piece of their own story too!

The light was getting quite muted at the foot bridge so we booked it back out into the open to catch sunset and discovered that it was still a bit out…the foot bridge was just dark! So we played in the forest a bit more, catching the light coming through the trees and dancing across the grass.

And then it was time to move out onto the lake flat for those sunset glow pictures. It did not disappoint!

I LOVE these next shots with the sunset clouds reflecting on the lake. That was so fun to play with and I loved that Jenna and Caleb were down for trying things and playing with the light!!

Caleb and Jenna, thank you for bringing me along to a spot that already has fun family memories for you and for trusting me with these images! And for having so much fun with it!! You two are so easy together, and I loved every minute of being with you out at the lake. You two are an incredible match and I can’t wait to see how you move through life together. Love you both (and Wesley too)!
