Devon and Jennelle’s Cabins on Strawberry Hill Wedding

As the day grew closer and closer to Devon and Jennelle’s Cabins on Strawberry Hill wedding, the forecast looked more and more drenching. We didn’t know what to expect with two hurricane remnants making their way through Arizona that weekend. We prepped and backup planned and I knew all of us working the wedding would do the best we could with whatever happened.

And then the wedding day arrived. It looked like the Pacific Northwest with moody clouds that made the forest greens even deeper, low clouds that hung over the mountain tops, and humidity that we rarely see in AZ. But it didn’t rain and we had such amazing light all day. It did mean moving around to accommodate the ever changing light as clouds shifted in and out, but everyone was good sports about it.

Wedding Details

We started the day by gathering all the wedding details for some pictures to capture those long hunted for pieces, jump start our creativity for the day, and to set the vibe.

See what I mean about it looking like the PNW?

They had their rings all ready to go, but Jennelle brought along a surprise ring for Devon as his groom’s gift. The roman numerals line out their wedding date! It was fun to have both groom rings to play with for these pictures.

Bride and Groom Prep

Devon and Jennelle got ready in separate cabins with their wedding parties there to help and lighten the mood. It’s always fun to see the vibe each group brings and how they chip in.

The First Look and Portraits

We were able to sneak Devon and Jennelle into the ceremony space so they could share a First Look and practice their end of the aisle kiss (even couples that practice that aisle kiss at home find it feels totally different when maneuvering the dress and bouquet – lately couples have wanted to practice that after their First Look).

They then exchanged gifts they had for each other: his custom ring and a beautiful bracelet for her.

And then it was time for portraits! This meant that after the ceremony we could whisk away up to the forest for some quick pictures then get them back down to join their friends and family quicker.

The nieces and their youngest daughter were so cute and so excited to see the couple. They kept peeking in the cracks and over the fence, so we had to grab a picture of that.

Isn’t her dress magnificent?! It was the perfect vibe for the whole day and really was such a show stopper.

Then it was time for the Dad and Daughter’s First Look. Devon’s three girls were all there and they were so cute getting all set up and ready for their Dad to see them for the first time.

Wedding Party

Cabins on Strawberry Hill Wedding Ceremony

I wish you could see how the clouds were moving in and out here. The layers were often going in opposite directions, the sun was peeking in and out, and it was gorgeous.

Special chairs for special heavenly guests. I love this tradition. These chairs were left open to honor Devon’s mom and Jennelle’s dad.

And then it was time.

She just marched up that aisle after the collar came off and giggled the whole time and it was adorable!

Look at that practice pay off! It was the perfect aisle kiss for them!

Cocktail Hour

They had the cutest vintage photo booth trailer there for their guests and it was such a hit! It was busy all night long!

Forest Portraits

I know, I say forest portraits and then still show the ceremony area, but we couldn’t not get a photo of them at the arch with that backdrop before moving up to the forest for some quick portraits during cocktail hour.

It’s just not a complete Cabins on Strawberry Hill Wedding without the iconic forest portraits! We weren’t up in the forest long, but still got some stunning shots of these two.

Grand Entrance, First Dance, Toasts and Cake

After the official toasts, they opened the mic up to anyone who wanted to come up. You never know who will get up and what they will say, it’s always a risk…but these guys had such sweet toasts, words of love, and beautiful support spoken to them.

And then it was cake time!

I don’t know who all was in on the next part…but it was a surprise to most of us! The junior bridesmaids came out with silly string after the cake cutting and totally had the element of surprise on their side.

Dancing

Want a good way to get all your guests on the dance floor right away? Start with a big group photo on the dance floor!

Devon and Jennelle, thank you so much for inviting me into this chapter of your love story. It was beautiful to watch your families come together for your wedding, to see your girls love on you, and to celebrate with your loved ones. It was a beautiful day in so many ways!
