I’ve talked before about why Bridal Details even matter. Because they do. They really do! And I even told a great story about Goldilocks to illustrate. If you missed that head over there and then come on back!
Gathering details can stress some brides out, but it doesn’t have to! Today I’m going to take you through a basic “list” of ideas to consider for the most common details to have ready! Read through to the bottom too for one great tip that will help you get even better detail shots AND lower your stress the morning of your wedding!
(Click here for the Groom’s version of this post!)
I’ll go through possible ideas and then at the bottom you can find an easy list of common bridal details you might consider for your wedding day!
TIP! Have these all gathered in a bag or box a day or two before your wedding to make it easy to find them and for your photographer to photograph them!
I know, you most likely won’t forget to bring your dress for your wedding day. Haven’t had that happen yet! But sometimes the dress is at the church instead of where you’re getting ready, or in your sister’s room and her baby is still asleep. It’s best to have the dress out and accessible so you don’t have to worry about the wrath of a woken-up baby. The dress shot is one of the first shots I start with!
If you and your Bridesmaids are all getting ready at the same location, it’s always fun to grab a quick shot of all the dresses together!
Most girls have put a lot of thought and heart into what shoes they will pair with their gorgeous dress, and picked the shoes they did for a reason! Whether you have gorgeous bejeweled heels, cute strappy sandals, feminine cowboy boots, or adorable rain boots, they tell so much of the story!
Most of the time if you let your florist know ahead of time that you’d like the bouquet there for the detail/getting ready shots, they will be happy to work with you on that! The bouquet shots in and of themselves are beautiful, but I love being able to pair the gorgeous florals with other elements of your day to tie them all together! This not only gives you great shots of your bouquet for your gallery, but it also provides your florist with beautiful shots for their portfolio as well!
This can include your necklace, earrings, bracelet, extra rings, toe rings, anklets, hair pieces, etc! Especially if you have your grandmother’s pearls, or the earrings you were wearing when you got engaged! Having the story pieces photographed helps preserve those memories!
And that segues beautifully into…
For detail shots you want to have not only your engagement ring, but your wedding band and his wedding band as well. There often isn’t time later in the day to get shots of the three bands together, so this is the time. And if any of the bands are meant to be a surprise, I will carefully keep your surprises safe and out of your sight while still getting the fun shots to fill out your gallery later!
Whether you have a single element to your invitation or 10 pieces and layers, I love being able to style the invitation suite in your details! That is often a part of the wedding that gets forgotten from scrapbooks and albums, and yet so much work and time goes into them! And they always look fun with the rings or earrings paired in!
I LOVE when a bride will set aside TWO copies of the wedding invitations with all inserts, photos, and envelopes. Two copies means I can get front and back all in one photo with layers and colors.
The Veil, if you are wearing one. I will often include this in shots of the dress or the shoes.
Other possible details to consider having is your wedding perfume, the garter, your old/new/borrowed/blue items, a handkerchief, personalized pieces, gifts, vows, etc.
Wedding mornings tend to get a little chaotic here and there! A few days before your wedding get a shoe box or a bag and gather up all your details inside. Jewelry, hair pieces, shoes, garter, anything! That way you know you have everything! When it’s all in one place I can come in and get to work right away and no one has to pause hair or makeup to dig through duffle bags to find who has the right strand of pearls. It saves you time and worry, and gives me more time to take more detail pictures for you!
And to make it easy, you can just screen shot or save the list below straight to your phone!
