Before I jump into the photos of this Silver City NM engagement session…some backstory. I know, we all groan when we have to scroll through a backstory to get to the recipe, so I don’t blame you if you skip and scroll to the photos. But I like the backstory so I’m going to tell it!
I have 32 first cousins on my Mom’s side of the family. That’s not including spouses or their children now. As I’m on the older end of the cousin lineup, I’ve been able to photograph a lot of my younger cousins’ engagements and/or weddings. It’s always extra special!!
When we lived in Silver City, we would go out and visit my Aunt Jossie and her family quite often. They were so fun, always so welcoming, and made our 5 years there in Silver City so much better. Roger wasn’t quite a teenager yet when we lived there, but he held his own against his older siblings and always added such life to the party. That part of him has never changed. He’s charismatic, happy, full of life and sharp!
The engagement session is the first time I’ve been able to meet Pat in person, but my family knows her well. She went to Prom with my younger brother Heber, which automatically ensured a place in my heart for her. She’s classy, smart, fun, and just so dang beautiful in every way!
While I was down with my Mom during her rattlesnake bite recovery, I got a message from Roger asking about engagement photos. He had no idea I was down in their neck of the woods, so it really was the most perfect timing. I was excited to meet up with them for their Silver City engagement session the day after he and Pat officially became engaged (wait until you see the ring he picked out!).
Pat had a specific vision in mind for the engagement session and it included a gorgeous tree covered road just outside of town. It was so fun to get to work with them to make her vision come to life!
Roger recently returned home from a church mission to the Philippines. While there a woman made this tailored suit for him and it’s so sharp looking! I loved that he wore it here for their engagement session.
This next shot I feel like she looks like a brunette Taylor Swift. Anyone else see it?!
Confession: I’m not normally into velvet…but I LOVE her dress and kinda want one for me now! And then the dress with those red boots?! It was just so perfect, I loved it so much! Pat has such a fun style!
While talking about Pat’s vision for the engagement photos she brought up the idea that she’d love to find somewhere urban for some of the photos, especially as most of the engagement sessions she’d seen were all in nature. I LOVE shooting in downtown Silver City, so I was all over this idea!
The murals, art, old architecture, and bridges there are so fun and full of life! We just hit a small section of the downtown area but found so many great spots to stop for picture or 10.
We really couldn’t go by a big pretty Prickly Pear “bush” without stopping. You know me!
Isn’t her ring beautiful! I love the unique band!!
Walking around made me itch to create and to add more color to my life. I love these grow boxes SO MUCH! It’s energizing and inspiring to wander by all the art galleries!
When you’re in the middle of an engagement session and you wander across a quote like this how could you not stop?! I know, this quote wasn’t given about love, but it fits it so well!
Roger and Pat, thank you so much for such a fun evening together! I am just tickled to death for you both. You are each top notch, and together you’re just absolutely incredible. I can’t wait to see life unfold as you go. Love you both! And Pat, welcome to the crazy family!! We’re excited to have you in the fun!
