When you’re a Colorado girl living in the Phoenix Valley, a Mogollon Rim Engagement Session is about as close as you can get to home and out of the summer heat! I loved that these two made the weekend trek up for photos, and man did we have a blast! I got to pull out the chest waders again as well as capture some new angles on the Rim I’ve been wanting to get!
Shaun was one of the very first official senior portrait sessions I ever did. I’ve shot engagement and wedding portraits for four of his other siblings and I was absolutely delighted when he messaged me letting me know that he was proposing to Bridgette that week and that he’d love to schedule engagement photos.
Every couple worries that they will look awkward during their engagement session and that they won’t know what to do. That’s totally normal! What most couples don’t realize though is just how cute they already are naturally. It’s my job to see those natural interactions and bring them out in the photos. And let me tell you, these two were SO cute in their interactions. They started nervous, as every couple does, but got into their groove and completely rocked their session. Shaun and Bridgette, you were FABULOUS!
While I was out scouting the lake to see where I wanted to shoot for their session, I got to the edge of the water just in time for something big to come bursting out of the water. I jumped. He jumped. We both kinda awkward laughed and I went on my way. A man was gathering flat stones from off the lake bottom to make this awesome tower. It is probably about 6-7 feet tall!
I think my chest waders might by my new favorite piece of photography gear! Shaun and Bridgette were so sweet and cute as I waded in and out and found just the right angles with the water and the light.
Really though, they needed little posing and were just so cute and comfortable all on their own.
As the sun started to sink towards the horizon we got out of the water and headed over to the Rim for the sunset light. It really is a spectacular spot to watch the sunlight change over Rim Country.
I can never decide which view of Rim Country is better…the totally clear view of all the layers after a storm, or the view when there are clouds or smoke in the air and you get the soft glow on the hills. Basically there just isn’t a bad view of the area or of these two. Shuan and Bridgette, you made Rim Country look extra good!
They bought their shoes separately, not even thinking about the engagement session. It was just meant to be! When they realized they’d essentially bought matching shoes they knew including those in their Engagement Session was a must!
Shaun and Bridgette, I LOVED our evening together! It was so fun to catch up with you Shaun and visit about “the good ol’ days” of game nights and visits! Some days I wish us cousins could just all go live in Gila down the road from each other! Bridgette, welcome to the family! It was SO good to get to know you some and to be around you. You totally rocked this whole session and I can’t wait for your bridals! Love you two!
