Instead of just diving into wedding details, let me tell a story quickly two ways, and you tell me which way is more interesting:
Goldilocks went to a house. She ate porridge. Then she broke a chair. Next she slept on a bed. Finally the bears came home and she was scared and ran away. The end.
Goldilocks, exhausted after wandering the woods, walked up to the beautiful rustic cabin in the woods and breathed a sigh of relief. The flower box on the window had recently been watered and was still dripping. Umbrellas were leaned against the wall, waiting to provide shelter from an afternoon storm. As she got closer the rich smell of something warm and tasty drifted out the open door. “Hello?” No answer. “Hello?!” No answer. Surely they wouldn’t mind if she just put up her feet. There on the table were three bowls of smooth, steaming, rich chocolate porridge. Her mouth instantly started watering.
We’ll leave the story there before it gets too long.
Which story had you like this:
Was one story was more interesting? Which one drew you in?
Story 2, right?! Were you imagining it right along with me? And now you want something chocolatey don’t you?!
What made the difference?
The stories are essentially the same, but Story 2 gave you rich details that helped you be a part of the story. It drew you in, helped you feel what she was feeling, and gave you a glimpse at what was happening.
This is exactly why I feel so strongly about photographs of your wedding details, and why you want to have them!
More than ever before, people are unable to have all their loved ones at their weddings. Grandma and Grandpa who are high risk, a sister who can’t fly across the country at 9 months pregnant, a friend who cannot get off of work, etc. You wedding photos will be one of the ways that you are able to bring your loved ones into your day and to let them feel a sliver like they were there.
Just as in the two stories, details can make a big difference here! This is why every wedding I keep my eye out for details to photograph. I want you to have those memories, I want your children to be able to look back and ooh and ahh at your wedding (and maybe even be able to pull in sentimental details to their wedding that tie to yours), and I want your loved ones who couldn’t attend to be able to feel like they are there!
You can’t tell a good story without good details! Your love story is worthy of having the details told, captured, and remembered for you, your posterity and your loved ones!
