I know the calendar says it’s September, the first “‘ber” month, the one that’s supposed to bring a little relief, but Southern Arizona did not get the memo about what ‘ber months mean. It was 100+ degrees on Kincade and Tatumn’s wedding day, and not one single person let it slow them down. Everyone pitched in, everyone stayed cheerful, and it was an awesome day from start to finish.

Tatumn told me the day before that everything that could go wrong, did — so by her logic, they’d gotten all their bad luck out of the way early. Whatever the reason, wedding day itself ran smooth as could be. Everyone was ready on time (a small miracle I never take for granted!), and Star Barn’s rustic charm was the perfect backdrop for these two.

Bride and Groom Details

I spotted the sun moving fast across Star Barn’s brand new rustic bench and knew we didn’t have much time. So we hung the dress, styled it up with the bouquet and shoes, and got it all captured just before the light shifted off. We got the dress back inside just in time for Kincade and his groomsmen to arrive! Timing like that always feels like a tiny victory!

Prep

While the girls were finishing up, the guys pitched in on some last-minute grounds prep before heading off to get dressed themselves. I love a wedding party willing to get their hands dirty right up until it’s time to look sharp. And sharp they looked, all lined up in their cream shirts and cowboy hats with Star Barn in the background.

I feel like this moment, when the dress goes on, is when things get real for the bride real fast! Nerves hit, excitement hits, and it’s such a fun moment!

Ok…when I walked into the bridal prep room, I 100% thought these two were sisters! They are mother & daughter!

Family First Look

Kincade and Tatumn chose a family first look, and it might be one of my favorite kinds to witness. Kincade turned around to find not just his bride, but their sweet toddler daughter right there with her, arms already reaching for him. Moments like that just melt me every time.

After the First Look they retreated indoors to the pink couch to exchange their vows in private before the ceremony.

The Wedding Party

These guys were a hoot and so good to take care of Kincade and Tatumn! I loved the dresses that tied in with the floral colors!

September Star Barn Wedding Ceremony

Under the barn’s open rafters Kincade and Tatumn said their vows surrounded by the most gorgeous wildflower-covered arch — every color you could think of, draped in soft pink fabric that moved with the breeze.

The groomsman on the left in the above photo…his hat blew right off his head as they started walking and his face was priceless! They kept the show going and stayed classy. The next groomsman brought the hat up for him, hidden behind his back. It was awesome.

They included a ring warming ceremony, passing the rings hand to hand through their loved ones so each person could hold a quiet moment of blessing over them before they were exchanged. It was tender to watch make its way around.

When the rings reached Grandpa, he held them up to a photo of his late wife, asking for her blessing on them too. It was such a meaningful moment, and I’m so glad my second shooter was right there to catch it while I photographed the other rings making their way around on the other side of the barn.

Bride and Groom Portraits

We stayed right on site for portraits, starting at their gorgeous arch and then working in some quick shots by the new fence line with the desert willow. The light was so soft and warm right there, and Kincade and Tatumn made it easy. They’re just naturally so sweet together!

Cocktail Hour

Confession time: I spent a good chunk of cocktail hour bustling Tatumn’s dress and then sitting down to hand-sew a rip that had opened up in the top layer of tulle! My second shooter had cocktail hour covered, capturing all the fun while I got Tatumn squared away and ready for the Grand Entrance and dance floor.

The Reception

The reception hit all the sweetest notes: a grand entrance, dinner, heartfelt toasts, their first dance together followed by dances with parents, and a beautiful cake cutting under all that string light glow.

The Grand Entrance started the reception and dinner. And oh what a dinner it was! Cristovan’s dinner hit the spot. The 2nd time they announced that there was enough food and they brought take home boxes, I may or may not have gotten me a box for my lunch the next day. It was delicious!

After dinner, the toasts by the Best Man (brother of the Groom) and Maid of Honor got the room back into celebration mode. The special dances followed right after.

That pink uplighting around the room was such a fun touch, and made for a fabulous and simple background for their sweet wildflower adorned gluten free personal cake! It originally was going to be a gender reveal cake to announce their pregnancy, but they got too excited in the weeks to come and told everyone before the wedding. So it returned to a beautiful and simple wedding cake for the occasion.

Then came the garter toss, and things got rowdy in the best way — Kincade’s groomsmen tackled him straight to the ground and held him down while Tatumn grabbed a pair of chaps and gave him a few solid whacks with them. I was cackling behind my camera. Absolutely iconic.

From there it was straight into the dollar dance and open dancing, and the party carried on late into the (still very warm) evening.

We heard a few knocks against the wall. I went out to investigate and found that some of the little boys had found and grabbed them a big ol’ toad. It was amazing!! We definitely had to get its portrait for the night.

Kincade and Tatumn, thank you for having me be part of your day. You two handled the heat, the chaos, and everything in between with so much grace and so much laughter, and it was an honor to be there capturing it all. Congratulations to you both and I can’t wait to meet Jackson baby #2! He’ll be just as awesome as the three of you already are. Love you all!
