It’s a pretty great day when you walk into Dairy Queen for an ice cream and you come out with an ice cream in one hand and the contact info for the beautiful girl working there in the other. Hunter scooped her up! Macey knew right away he’d made her heart melt, and it wasn’t long before they knew they loved each other a waffle lot. I love a good origin story, and this one might be my favorite kind: completely unplanned, completely them.

Hunter and Macey showed up ready to have fun, and it showed in every single frame. They wanted something earthy and different for their Red Knolls Engagement Session. They wanted a departure from the forest photos their siblings had done. They loved those forest photos, don’t get me wrong, but they wanted their own kind of backdrop, their own kind of story. Red Knolls gave us exactly that.

The terrain out at Red Knolls is unlike anywhere else I get to shoot. Those layered, sun-baked ridges practically glow, and Hunter and Macey fit right into them. They were climbing, laughing, chasing each other across the open space like they owned the place.

They started in soft neutrals (white and tan with her black dress against all that warm earthy color) and it was such a good match for the landscape. The simple and clean outfits really made them pop off the background of Red Knolls!

Then outfit two came out: Macey in a rich maroon that popped against the tan ridges and the moody clouds rolling in behind them. That color combination threw in such perfect color without clashing with their surroundings.

Piggyback rides, twirls, stolen kisses mid-laugh…these two were up for anything I threw at them, and it made for some of my favorite kind of images: the ones that don’t look posed at all, just two people who genuinely like being around each other.

And can we talk about the weather? Just a slight breeze, gorgeous texture in the clouds (enough to diffuse the light without going flat or muddy) and then that golden hour hit. It put the cherry on top of an already fabulous session. The kind of light you can’t fake and can’t plan for, you just get lucky and hope the clouds cooperate. They did.

Hunter and Macey, thank you for bringing so much joy and so much fun to your session. You two were an absolute blast to work with. You were game for every idea, laughing between every shot, and so clearly smitten with each other. I hope you love these as much as I loved capturing them. I can’t wait to see what’s next for you both!
